抛开繁缛的逻辑和絮叨的台词，这部剧最致命的缺点是过多讲述了太多家庭私事，因此弱化了波澜壮阔波诡云谲的70年美国历史大背景下一个媒体巨擎的成长历程、女性在现代社会从从属到主体这一翻天覆地的变化，同时也未能整体描绘出媒体与政府、商业的关系全貌，而事实上也许编剧是唯一一个可以从上述三个角度给后世呈现历史的角色。
